Sort of open-ended that left a lot up to the reader's imagination and really left me wanting more. However beware what you wish for as sometimes more is not what a book needs!
This sequel was so disappointing! It felt so uninspired. Plot lines and devices used in the first book that once felt so fres Every Seventh Wave is a sequel to the book Love Virtually. Plot lines and devices used in the first book that once felt so fresh now felt tired. The story lacked the originality of the first because it attempted to repeat or at least model itself in its image: Where character flaws were cute and quirky in Love Virtually, here they quickly grew tiresome and irritating.
The whole plot line felt as if the main characters were stuck running inside one of those constantly moving hamster wheels. Where Love Virtually was a quick and snappy read, this one just dragged and took me daaaaaaaaaaays to force myself to finish.

I dialoghi di Emmi e Leo diventano dopo poche pagine estenuanti, ansiosi, fastidiosi, inutili, petulanti, patetici. Una noia mortale. No, no, no e NO. Emmi e Leo sono una lagna continua Okej, toto nebude review, len take moje vykriky do nezname, lebo to musim zo seba dostat: Najhorsi citatelsky zazitok roka Kolko by som vyskrtal?: Toto urcite nebola najhorsia kniha aku som tento rok cital, ale bol to najhorsi citatelsky zazitok.
Toto co som vzal teraz do ruk bolo nudne, dl Okej, toto nebude review, len take moje vykriky do nezname, lebo to musim zo seba dostat: Ta pol hviedicka je tam za to, aku ulohu aku zohral Emmin manzel v tejto a vlastne aj minulej knihe.
Never ever! Keby vymenil hrdinov, boli by mladsi, starsi, hned by to bolo ovela zaujimavejsie, takto to bola len NUDA! I am sorry View all 3 comments. Learn your lesson, baby, learn your lesson.
Nov 04, Sophie rated it did not like it Shelves: I really enjoyed the first book, but I have to say that this was so bad, or rather, the characters were so stupid in this book that it actually made me dislike the first volume, too.
Back when reading Gut gegen Nordwind I mildly disliked her but liked him. Now I loathe and despise both equally. It's not that Glattauer can't write, but I have to be able to at least respect the characters.
I liked book 1, it was surprising, I never read a book like that before. And the ending!! This one was … I don't know. I think I expected something and it didn't come. It was less interesting, less reflexive, less … good. The thing I really liked: That was good! I knew how it would end!
To conclude, I was quite off track. I wasn't into it. It might not have been the right moment to read it! Well, is it to confirm that romances are not for me?
Nov 06, Samineh Bagheri rated it did not like it. I don't have much to say about this but only a question. Why did he write the second Gut gegen Nordwind? Was it like this? Oh my book sold out very well so I am going to write another book the very exact same as the first one to make a lot of money? I wished I didnt read this one to keep my good feelings about Gut gegen Nordwind 1.
The only positive thing about the book was that it was very short. Every Seventh Wave is a sequel to Love Virtually, so this review contains spoilers for that book which is incidentally very good and which I'd probably give four stars to.
I've read an email affair. I have what I believe the kids refer to as "Mad Skillz". I was going to explain more about that but I can't do so in a short way, so just take it from me that I know what a casual email which turns into something more reads like in real life. It's quite a lot like Love Virtually, which is really goo Every Seventh Wave is a sequel to Love Virtually, so this review contains spoilers for that book which is incidentally very good and which I'd probably give four stars to.
It's quite a lot like Love Virtually, which is really good. If you doubt, three words: Kafka the Musical. I believe I've already mentioned my Mad Skillz, Tennant: If I had a criticism of the radio play, it was that it felt rushed, which the book does not. I've read it twice, and the second time - with the benefit of Meatworld Knowledge - I was especially struck by how well it's done. It's written as a series of email exchanges beginning when Emmi Rothner, attempting to cancel a magazine subscription, mistypes the email address and sends her increasing frustrated missives to Leo Lieke.
They strike up a friendship and the title of the book gives a heads up for where it goes after that. The pacing of Love Virtually is done really well. The characters are well rounded; Emmi in particular is quite unpleasant. She is demanding, self-centred, vain, and spoiled, but, crucially, she is very readable.
Then there is the ending: Leo is leaving for Boston and Emmi is supposed to be going round to his flat so they can meet face to face before he goes, just once, only she doesn't and when she writes to Leo to explain why, all she gets is the autoresponder telling her the email address no longer exists.
So I was disappointed to find out there was a sequel. Emmi and Leo were not epic star-crossed lovers. One of the nice things about having a book which is purely email exchanges is that it allows the reader to have their own opinion, and mine is that they were selfish, stupid fantasists who got carried away with themselves and needed to think about the people they were hurting.
Every Seventh Wave is a sequel for people who were rooting for Emmi and Leo, and by god is it tedious. What was well done in Love Virtually is boring, and repetitive here.
There is a glimmer of something better at times, but for much of it there are no outside forces, no real life world forcing itself in. This book begins with Emmi's exchanging messages with Leo's autoresponder, months after he's left for Boston, but what's missing is the hole in Emmi's life which leads her to still sit there sending messages to this guy 9 months after he left. The hole was there in Love Virtually, she could be frivolous Emmi, saying what she thought without worrying about it, but here it feels convenient, and that's a good summation of the book.
Stuff happens, but it's not compelling and it's reported by the characters, rather than the more natural exchanges of Love Virtually. Crucially, I don't know what Emmi and Leo see in each other.
More than once I found myself wondering why one or the other of them didn't tell the other to take a running jump. I could forgive if it was entertainingly bitchy, or even just human, but it's dull and it's boring, and in the end I just didn't care.

Sort order. Every Seventh Wave is a sequel to the book Love Virtually. I loved Love Virtually! It was fun, quirky, bittersweet It had a great ending. Sort of open-ended that left a lot up to the reader's imagination and really left me wanting more.

I had no idea if the author would be able to create a book as good as the first one Contra el viento del norte truly is an amazing book, it's cleverly written and the ending is..
And now this second book was just as funny, witty, frustrating, sad and so much more.. Truly, a roller coaster of emotions. Apr 30, Lily Smalls rated it it was ok Shelves: As the end of Gut gegen Nordwind was tough but in my opinion absolutely perfect, I started reading the follow-up with mixed feelings.
Before I continue I better let you know what happens in both novels. By chance Leo and Emmi started an e-mail corresp I don't like sequels. By chance Leo and Emmi started an e-mail correspondence and a virtual relationship.
Every now and then they considered to meet up but actually feared a disappointment because of their too high expectations.
All Seven Waves
Beyond that, there seems to be no chance for a relationship anyway. Emmi is happily married and can't imagine to leave her family. She feels too much responsability. On top of it her husband discovers her secret and interferes allowing Leo to meet his wife once, only to leave her alone afterwards. Leo gives in and decides on a clear cut with Emmi and a new start in Boston. This is where the second novel sets in. Over nine months Emmi corresponds with Leo's system administrator until Leo finally returns from Boston and starts sending distant replies.
Leo is now in a relationship with Pamela and tries to elude Emmi. It takes a lot of mails and some encounters for Leo to discover that he is living a lie and yes this time the reader will partake in a happy end. To make it short. I wasn't drawn in. I wasn't even interested in finding out what future has in store for Emmi and Leo. It was too predictable. Whereas I devoured Gut gegen Nordwind I felt not much tension while reading its sequel.
If it wasn't for Emmi I would have most probably left this book unfinished. View 1 comment. Love it. Even more than the previous one.
And, although it's a sequel, this seems like a completely different story. Yes, there's Emmi. And Leo. Yes, they are kind of moving on. Yes, here's another roller coaster trip full of emotions, dreams, everything and anything you've been hoping for And, yes, I disliked the ending of Gut gegen Nordwind , but it was for the best. And maybe Love it. And maybe, just maybe, this feels even better because of it. Now that I think about it Like, a real male man?
Well, thank you Mr. Glattauer twice for making me believe there are still those Leo-kind-of guys out there. I needed that. And, wouldn't mind meeting one of them.
Or, even better, e-mailing with one of them. I enjoyed reading this book. Really, truly, immensely enjoyed.

Wouldn't change a single thing, not even one letter, about it. Everything was is just as it should be. Sep 09, Harley Quinn rated it really liked it. Cute, cute, cute! A year ago I read a book that was very sad and amazing. I could relate to that book a lot. Because I had virtual friend and we really got close and understood each other on a deeper level.
However, it wasn't really romantic, it was just different, without strings and objectively easy because that friend could give you another perspective of things from your life because he doesn't know you in person, hence he isn't subjective.
The book was called 'Against northern wind' or Cute, cute, cute! The book was called 'Against northern wind' or originally Gut gegen Norwind, and it was about two people that met each other on Internet accidentally when Emmi tried to cancel newspapers online.

That's when she got an answer from Leo saying that she has wrong email adress. The story begins. In a form of emails. It was really great and funny, light and sweet. Leo was so good with words, such a depth and wisdom, metaphors.. Emmi was sweet but not happy in her life or marriage And after a year or maybe two I find out there is a sequel. What could Daniel possibly say after that specific ending? I was curious so I read the second book. What to say?
It was good and short but I would stay with the first ending Leo, how I like that man. He's amazing. I just couldn't stop reading, one of my favorite books. A great sequel to Gut gegen Nordwind. But now they got to closer to me. They finally meet and this experience gives sparks to their emails. The title is perfect and completely symbolizes the essence of the story. Certainly not as good as the first one, but still unputdownable. On the other hand it's hard to to thing about a believable alternate ending that would make everyone happy.
I'm still rereading this series twice a year: Apr 18, Lulufrances rated it really liked it.

Actual rating 4,5 This book made me so emotional. I love how real and true the emotions seem that Daniel Glattauer transports. This is such an easy, breezy read yet in no way shallow, what a writerly feat!

It has all the wit, homour and the essence of the first part which really makes it work. Every Seventh Wave begins exactly where Love Virtually ended.. And finally the much awaited meeting does happen this time: And that is how this book shapes up and moves. If you enjoyed Love Virtually, it almost follows that you will enjoy this sequel. In some ways, Every Seventh Wave mana Writing the sequel of a real good book is not an easy job at all but Daniel did it with aplomb.
There is, I think, a darker undertone to this one that I definitely appreciated. Almost inevitably, there were also episodes that made the story more convenient than it was in the first book.
So go for it; pick the first one if you haven't read that and then finish the entire virtual love story: Nov 04, Sophie rated it did not like it Shelves: I really enjoyed the first book, but I have to say that this was so bad, or rather, the characters were so stupid in this book that it actually made me dislike the first volume, too.
