About Simon Hazeldine. Simon Hazeldine. Books by Simon Hazeldine. There are quite a few very practical NLP-influenced language patterns. All in all, Bareknuckle Selling contains lots of practical, real-world selling tips and outlines a systems of selling you could adapt and fill-in the blanks with.
Like most books of this type, this one has an advertisement in the back for the author's training seminars. This book particularly interested me because I am a marketing consultant and many of the examples pertained to selling "increase your sales" stuff to businesses, which is what I need to do. Hazeldine is more of a sales guy and I'm a marketing guy, but in this book the strategies shown would work for either sort of thing. This is a contrast to Dave Lakhani's recent and pretty good book, "How To Sell When Nobody's Buying" which is so strongly rooted in Lakhani's experiences selling corporate sales training it's a little hard to grasp how to adapt the methods to other niches.
That isn't a problem with Hazeldine's book at all - his style of selling comes across as breezy and adaptable and not overly slanted towards one segment of the B2B sales environment. If you sell sales training, websites, marketing makeovers, advertising and such "profit motivated" business-to-business services I think you'll get some juicy insights from this book.
Some of the stuff here is killer for selling straight to consumers spending their own money too - an area where many B2B selling books and methods fall flat.

I really enjoyed this book. I found it very entertaining as well as highly educational. The author uses some really cool acronyms such as: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Stretching, Holistic. For four types of questions to ask when selling COPS: Closed, Open, Probing, Summarizing. He also tells some interesting stories to illustrate points. I really enjoyed the one on the Great Dane.

I highly recommend this book to any sales organization as a useful manual as an aid on increasing performance. In Bare Knuckle Selling, Simon offers you an opportunity to understand the selling process from tip to tail. His writing style is easily understood and provides a wealth of detail that allows you to apply his techniques to any situation.
Simon begins his efforts by offering multiple methods of gaining a further understanding of your customers and ensuring you that are meeting their needs. As my own consulting experience includes corporate development of Customer Experience models, I'm particularly fond of this customer centered approach.
He further benefits the reader by giving a lucid and useable description of basic NLP methods for developing rapport. In doing so, the reader gains an understanding of how their demeanor and approach can make all the difference when going for the close.
The bottom line is that Bare Knuckle Selling will benefit both the novice and experienced seller. One of the first things that set Bare Knuckle Selling apart from other books is how well this book is structured.
Often, authors tend to go off in a tangent and lose the reader very fast.
The method of selling that this author advocates is one that strikes the balance between closing the deal which makes the seller feel good and giving something of value to the customer which makes the buyer feel good. The examples shared are personal, practical and can be used by anyone to sell anything.
