Tell No One is a thriller novel by American writer Harlan Coben, published in The book was Coben's first novel to appear on The New York Times Best. Praise. "Harlan Coben's Tell No One begins at a run and in no time is moving at an all-out sprint. The characters are engaging and the strange goings-on will. Every writer likes to stretch his legs, and here Coben, author of seven acclaimed Myron Bolitar mysteries (Darkest Fear, etc.), stretches his. He doesn't quite kick.
And he doesn't. Instead, he runs from the people he trusts the most, plunging headlong into a search for the shadowy figure whose messages hold out a desperate hope. But already Beck is being hunted down. He's headed straight into the heart of a dark and deadly secret—and someone intends to stop him before he gets there. He doesn't quite kick his reputation aside in the process.
This thriller, Coben's first non-Bolitar novel, is a breezy enough read, but it's not up to snuff. It's got a nifty setup, though. David Beck and Elizabeth Parker, just-married childhood sweethearts, are vacationing at the Beck family retreat when Beck is knocked unconscious and Elizabeth is kidnapped. Cut to eight years later: Beck is a young physician working with ghetto kids in Manhattan, and Elizabeth, we learn, is dead, victim of a serial killer known as KillRoy.
First of all, I'd like to say that I had avoided reading it for too long until I had a chance to try it, then I couldn't putting it down even I had a lot of work this week. Tell No One has a straightforward narration. We believed wholeheatedly about what the author tried to tell, but after that, he revealed a distrustful evidence making us reconsider our thought again and again till the end.
And this is what makes the book so special for me. The good ones most of all. He surprsied me with many twists, and the whole plot was thoroughly planned. Coben successfully stuck me with the emotion that left me wanting to read crime novels again this year. And now I'm irrevocably a fan of him!

After he digs into the evidences of his wife and is aware that maybe she's still alive, the book leaps to the highest tempo because of his mind and my suspicion that craving some answers, and you have no idea how much that feeling hit my brain so many times until I promised my self I had to finish this book before midnight. Tell No One also has thrilling vibes and action scens, too, so you don't have to worry that it will bore you to death. Harlen Coben will be the first author, from now on, when I think of crime novels, I'll pick his other books without hesitation.
Thai review: With Coben, it's very hard to review a book without mentioning spoilers. If I wrote what I want to write, my review would look like a heavily redacted top secret file. So, I will just hit on some key points: Very mysterious and entertaining.
If you like other Coben, you will lime this. Not to bad, just part of all the twists and turns Coben always throws in. Not too complex, in fact they are basically caricatures, but really fun to With Coben, it's very hard to review a book without mentioning spoilers. Oh no! I've just rated a Harlan Coben book only three stars! I found it hard to give time to this book as it's a busy time of year and a busy household.
Of course this has nothing to do with the book. I liked this one, didn't love it, and only really wanted to see what happened. I didn't love the ending, there was so much going on. Maybe I had to think too hard! I still think he's an amazing writer. Can't love them all, huh?! I really do like his work: If you cross the street to a Oh no! If you cross the street to avoid a gang of black teens, you're racial profiling; if you see the gang and think nothing whatsoever, you're from some planet I've never visited.
Women carrying too many bags. Kids who probably should have been in school leaned against whatever was available, some cooler than the next. View all 11 comments. It was selected as the book for group discussion in one of my groups and was highly touted. I had a really tough time putting this book down for interruptions sleep, errands, meals, etc.
You think you know who the good guys are, only to be disappointed at a later juncture. Even the good guys are presented with moral dilemmas where they make dicey choices and you question your own self as to whether you would have done things differently.
Here you have a man who's done nothing but the right things expected of him and in the space of 24 hours is consorting with people and doing things he would never have considered as an option the day before. The story kept me off balance the entire time and the twist at the end really caught me off guard, just when I believed I had everything sorted out. I certainly did. View all 13 comments. I don't think I've ever read a book that left me guessing so much. Literally to the last page. Any book that can stump me like that is a winner in my book. It was so full of suspense and twists and turns, one of the best thrillers I've read. It would make a great movie too. I just can't believe no one fact checked the historical reference to the architect Stanford White!
Not a spoiler. Its inaccuracy bothered me a little bit and 4. Its inaccuracy bothered me a little bit and that's why I made a silly. View all 12 comments. David Beck receives mysterious emails eight years after his long time childhood friend, and wife for six months was taken.

This is not Coben's best; perhaps one of his subcontracted works, Still, I kept reading because I didn't really know what was going on and there was enough sustained tension. I can't say that anything about this felt genuine or that I particularly cared about any of the characters, it's just not that kind of book. In short, a good read that could have been great. My very first Harlan Coben book …not going to be my last. Though I do feel the story read more like a movie script. View all 8 comments. May 02, Corey rated it it was amazing Shelves: This book completely blew me away, one twist after another! I can certainly understand why it got such a buzz when it was released. Each page and chapter of the book just keep you guessing up until the very end.
Harlan Coben, just where have you been all my life? Tell No One dishes up torsional drama from the first page and then latterly, with the initial murder out of the way and with the scene carefully set for the calm before the storm, Coben goes about introducing us to an eclectic procession of goodies and baddies. His protagonist, Beck, is immensely likeable. Ditto his best friend, Shauna and his goody-twice-shod sister, Linda.
As such, these characters stand as a wonderful, even contrast to the motley crew of miscreants and maladjusts and we can rest assured that said malefactors each possess a unique talent that will guarantee the reader a jolt of pure pandemonium from the get-go. Even the Feds and there had to be a couple of Feds don't disappoint as Coben describes them as taking Beck by surprise in their total replication of their fictional television counterparts; I find this a delicious writing trait as it makes a character so easy to imagine and an almost guilty, lazy pleasure for the reader to mentally flesh out the story that is now going on in their heads.
Anyway, in spite of the rip-roaring pace of the tale Coben somehow manages to maintain momentum whilst swapping from first person to third person. As a strategem, using Beck in the first person attaches you to him more emotionally, which is fundamental to his nice-guy persona. Coupled with the smooth transition out to third person, we can clearly see Coben's talent as a writer - to do that without creating even a teaspoon of underlying confusion, is in no small way challenging.
In summary, as I have raved on for quite long enough, Tell No One is simply an awesome read. I loved it and could not put it down and found myself staying up far later than is strictly advisable, necessary or healthy to reach the final page, which - by the way - has the most gobsmacking final pike and tuck in the story that caught me completely off-guard.
I must recommend Tell No One to you in spades and if you have not read it already, go out and buy it today. I'm not sure I want Harlan Coben to rub shoulders on my mental bookshelf with anyone that is not worthy so I am selecting my recommendations to you with caution.
Tell No One is indeed a twining tale and with that in mind, perhaps you should take a look at Ravens by George Dawes Green and similarly, the hardhitting but somehow very lovely Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn which in fact received very high praise from Coben himself.
Along the same lines, you might also enjoy The Deceived by Brett Battles which whilst not quite as gripping, is certainly worth a peek. Just send us an email and we'll put the best up on the site.

Jump to:On the far right, I could see the curb. I could feel her heart and I could hear her breathing. The scam was simple, which was what made it so extraordinary. This is OK as far as thrillers go. Romance, it's getting dark. But on their thirteenth visit, Elizabeth is kidnapped and David is left for dead. Nauseating, I know. Coben, Harlan.
