Hardcover Verified Purchase. The "Concise" presentation offers subject identities and timeline concurrence, whereas this one offer thousands of images to help with development of understanding. The two should always be available for simultaneous reference, in my view, and as a pair can provide essential introduction to the scope of world history. This is a massive book and is not just something to sit down and finish.

You get to explore the history of the world with numerous pictures on each page. I wish there were a bunch of large sized pictures but given how many there are in the book it's clear they went with quantity over size and that's fine. It's way more than just pictures.

And first, I'll state the obvious: This book kind of gets there, but it needs two things in order to become comprehensive. First, it needs maps.

I don't understand why the authors would endeavor to write a history book without maps. I had to do a lot of googling to figure out where the heck Lombardy and the Eurasian Steppes are in today's world. Second, it needs a good editor.
